Directions Around the Big Apple

April 9, 2011

We are so pleased to know that many of our dearest friends and family will be making their way to New York to celebrate with us.  However, NYC can be an overwhelming place to navigate, so we’ve compiled some directions to help make your travel easier.

The Ceremony:

St. Paul’s Luther Church

334 S. 5th St.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Penn Station to St. Paul’s, Subway: Take the A/C/E downtown to W. 4th St.  Transfer to the Downtown/Brooklyn bound F train.  Take the F train to Delancey St.  From Delancey St., take the Brooklyn-bound J train.  (Enjoy the view from the Williamsburg Bridge).  Take the J train to Marcy Ave.   From the Marcy station it is only a few blocks to St. Paul’s.

To get to St. Paul’s from The Mave and The Gershwin Hotels, Subway: Take the R train at 28th and Broadway downtown to Canal St.  At Canal St., transfer to the Brooklyn-bound J train.  Take the J to Marcy Ave.  From the Marcy station it is only a few blocks to St. Paul’s.

Driving to St. Paul’s from the Holland Tunnel: Upon entering Manhattan, make your way to the Williamsburg bridge:  Straight onto Canal St., left on Bowery, right on Delancy St.  Upon crossing the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn, take the S.5th St. Exit.  St. Paul’s is straight ahead at S.5th and Rodney.

Group Rates at the Gershwin and Mave Hotels

January 27, 2011

As you may all know, hotels in NYC are very expensive! We are sensitive to this and have reserved rooms at group rates in 2 hotels in the Flatiron District of Manhattan, to try to make accommodations for our guests as affordable as possible.

There are rooms available for booking at the Gershwin Hotel and the Mave Hotel.

The Gershwin Hotel

The Gershwin Hotel is a unique hotel with a lot of character. It is quirky and artistic with a small organic café attached.

The rooms are very modest, which helps to make them very modestly priced. 20 Superior rooms are available for booking at $186.80, with taxes and fees totaling $214.35. There are also a very limited number of upgrades to a suite or a “family room” for $20 more, if you’d prefer. (Reservations must be made by 4.20.11 to guarantee these rates)

Please check out the website at

To reserve a room at the Gershwin, please call Carolina Ribeiro of VisionOne Hospitality at  407-997-1200 to book a room under the Hartzell/Hugghins block.

The Mave Hotel

The Mave hotel is a slight upgrade from the Gershwin (and just steps away). It is a more modern hotel, with slightly more comforts & amenities.  It also includes free wi-fi and a modest complimentary “grab & go” breakfast.

Rates for the Mave:

$219 for the Madison Queen room ($254.81 with taxes & fees)

$239 for the Madison King room ($277.75 with taxes & fees)

$239 for our Madison Double rooms ($277.75 with taxes & fees, includes2 double beds, 220 Sq. ft, max occupancy 4 people)

(Reservations must be made by 4.1.11 to insure rates)

Visit the website at

You can reserve these special rates by emailing and mentioning the Hartzell/Hugghins Wedding rates, or by calling the hotel directly and asking for Gina in “in house reservations” at 212-532-7373, M-F 9am-5pm.

You are also welcome to book a hotel anywhere else you desire, if you can find a better deal or a hotel more tailored to your wants! The following link is a guide that New York Magazine put together of hotels they consider ideal for wedding guests. Feel free to peruse:

The Gershwin Hotel

We are in the process of reserving a block of rooms at the Gershwin Hotel for our out of town guests to book at a special rate.  The Gershwin is located in the Flatiron District and is a very unique hotel with a lot of character.  We are very excited about our friends and family staying there!
